Emir Sanusi Pledges To Intervene In Fulani Crisis, Calls For Government Support

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has expressed his commitment to addressing the ongoing Fulani crises in Nigeria, offering to spearhead efforts to find a permanent solution. The Emir made this declaration on Tuesday while receiving the leadership of the Fulani group, Tapital Pulaku Njode Jam Nigeria, at his palace in Kano.

During the meeting, Emir Sanusi emphasized the urgent need for the Federal Government to take decisive action to resolve the challenges facing the Fulani community, which have led to widespread violence and displacement across the country. He stressed that a sustainable solution could only be achieved with full governmental support, as the state possesses the necessary resources and authority to implement his proposed strategies.

“But this can be done only if the Federal Government will give me full support to achieve my mission because they have the might and what it takes to make my strategy work, while I will provide the ideas and the methodologies of how to go about it,” Sanusi stated.

The Emir acknowledged the difficulties faced by the Fulani people, including violent attacks, social isolation, cattle rustling, and the destruction of their property. He noted that these challenges have been pervasive across Nigeria, leading to a deep sense of marginalization within the Fulani community.

“No doubt, Fulanis in Nigeria have suffered heavy attacks, isolation, killing, and destruction, and the rustling of their cows. These rejections indeed were carried all across the country, and something needs to be done to arrest the situation,” he said.

However, Emir Sanusi also recognized the existence of criminal elements within the Fulani community who have contributed to the negative perception and suffering of their people. He emphasized the importance of distinguishing between these “bad eggs” and the majority of law-abiding Fulani, and he called for a collective effort to restore the dignity and reputation of the Fulani people.

“This is the time that the government, together with us, will have a permanent solution to the crises, more specifically between them and the farmers and also where they are suspected to be carrying out other crimes,” he added. “I, on my own, am ready to help the government achieve the desired mission of having peace and prosperity among the Fulanis and indeed, other Nigerians. Their suffering should stop. I believe together we will do it.”

Madibo Jada, the leader of Tapital Pulaku Njode Jam Nigeria, expressed his group’s loyalty to Emir Sanusi, affirming their confidence in his ability to resolve the ongoing crises and restore the Fulani community’s honor. Jada noted the group’s extensive membership across all 36 states of Nigeria, highlighting the significance of their support for the Emir.

“Our members are mainly in the bushes, and if today I asked only the youth wing of our group to come here, this palace will be too small for us. We have members all across the 36 states of Nigeria,” Jada remarked. He also expressed hope that under Emir Sanusi’s leadership, the Fulani people would regain their rightful place in Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.
