The management of Bayero University, Kano, (BUK) has announced the suspension of lectures and other academic activities at its campuses indefinitely.

Grassroots Parrot had reported how the university snubbed the planned nationwide hunger protest and assured that all academic activities would continue.

But in a twist of events, on Monday, Lamara Garba, Deputy Registrar, Public Affairs, confirmed the suspension in a statement made available to Grassroots Parrot.

Garba said the decision to suspend the lectures until further notice was made by the management of the university “after a careful review of the situation in Kano State with respect to the ongoing national protest.”

The statement, however, assured the university community that all academic and administrative activities will resume fully as soon as normalcy returns.

The statement reads: “The management of Bayero University, Kano, wishes to commend members of the university community for their support and cooperation in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere on its campuses.

After a careful review of the situation in Kano State as a result of the National Protest, the university management has directed that all scheduled lectures be suspended forthwith.

However, as soon as normalcy returns, all academic and administrative activities will resume fully.

Students residing on the campuses are advised to continue to remain calm and law-abiding, as adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure their safety.

The management, in particular, is concerned with the safety of lives and property and, therefore, enjoins the members of the university community to continue to be cautious about their movements outside the campuses in order to avoid exposure to any possible danger.
