The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old woman, Fatima Mohammed, for allegedly strangling her co-wife, Hajara Isa, to death in their matrimonial home at Anguwan Sarakuna, Bauchi metropolis.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, revealing that the tragic incident occurred on February 28, 2025.

According to Wakil, the matter was brought to the police’s attention on March 3, 2025, at about 0800hrs, when one Sale Isa of Anguwan Sarakuna reported suspicions surrounding Hajara’s death. Family members alleged that Fatima Mohammed might have been involved in the incident.

Responding to the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, directed a specialized team of detectives from the C Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), to conduct a thorough investigation.

“This effort resulted in the arrest of Fatima Mohammed, a 28-year-old co-wife to the deceased, who is currently in custody,” Wakil stated.

Preliminary investigations reportedly implicated Fatima Mohammed in the crime. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to strangling Hajara to death.

To conceal the crime, she purportedly poured boiling water on the deceased and attempted to burn her body using a melting sack.

“This team is dedicated to conducting a professional, diligent, and timely investigation aimed at uncovering the truth and addressing any uncertainties through a comprehensive approach,” Wakil added.

The police have assured the public that justice will be served, and the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly upon the conclusion of investigations.
