The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two young women over an alleged attempt to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron Dutse, Kano.
The arrest was made on December 21, 2025, during routine security screening at the custodial facility, when correctional officers intercepted the suspects while they were attempting to gain access into the centre.
The suspects, identified as Maryam Ali and Hauwa Musa, both aged between 19 and 20 years and residents of Kano State, were reportedly found in possession of suspected illicit substances believed to have been meant for inmates.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Musbahu Lawan Knassarawa, described the act as a serious violation of correctional rules and Nigerian law.

“The suspects were intercepted during routine security checks while attempting to gain entry into the custodial centre with suspected illicit substances,” Knassarawa said.
He stressed that such actions contravene the Nigerian Correctional Service regulations and constitute a criminal offence under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to Knassarawa, the suspects have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Kano State Command of the NCoS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict security and discipline within custodial centres across the state.
