The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the deaths of two children who tragically fell into wells in separate incidents across the state this week.

In a statement released by the Fire Service Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the first incident occurred on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at about 8:53 a.m. in Kashirmo Village, Sarkakiya area of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area (LGA).

According to the report, an 8-year-old girl, identified as Zara’u Muhammad, accidentally fell into a deep well. Local residents made desperate attempts to rescue her before the arrival of emergency responders, but their efforts proved unsuccessful due to the depth and water level of the well.

“Despite our special rescue teams’ efforts, the girl was recovered dead,” the statement read. Her remains were later handed over to Abdullahi Garba, the Ward Head of Kashirmo Village.

In a separate incident that occurred on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at about 10:02 a.m., 6-year-old Ahmad Abdurashid also fell into a well at Dandishe Tsamiyar Goodluck area in Dala Local Government.

Rescue workers managed to pull Ahmad out of the well, but he was unconscious and later confirmed dead. His body was released to his father, Abdurashid, at Dandishe Quarters.

Reacting to the incidents, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, expressed deep concern over the recurring cases of children falling into open wells across the state.

He urged parents and community members to adopt preventive measures, warning against the construction of wells along roadsides or in open areas.

“We appeal to residents to ensure that all wells are securely covered and to closely monitor the movements of their children to avoid such heartbreaking tragedies,” Anas said.

The Fire Service reiterated its commitment to responding swiftly to emergencies but emphasized that community vigilance and preventive action remain the best ways to save lives.
