Tinubu Tax Reform Bills Will Pass- Hon. Jibrin

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills will be passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.

Jibrin made this assertion on Sunday, November 24, during an appearance on TVC’s Politics Today program, just 24 hours after the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) called on federal lawmakers from the region to reject the proposed bills.

The NEF had raised concerns about the potential impact of the reforms on ordinary Nigerians, urging Northern legislators to resist any policy that could deepen the economic challenges facing their constituents.

Despite this opposition, Jibrin, who chairs the House Committee on Housing and Habitat, described the bills as pivotal to President Tinubu’s broader economic agenda aimed at transforming Nigeria’s fiscal landscape.

“I have never had any doubt about the consideration and passage of the Tax Reform Bills,” Jibrin stated during the interview. “We will pass the tax reform bills.”

He lauded Tinubu’s vision, emphasizing that the reforms are designed to stimulate economic growth and improve the nation’s revenue generation capacity.

“President Tinubu, through these tax reform bills and other economic policies, wants the best for Nigerians,” Jibrin added.

The Tax Reform Bills, which were recently transmitted to the National Assembly, are part of Tinubu’s comprehensive economic agenda.

They aim to simplify the tax system, improve compliance, and increase government revenues to fund critical infrastructure and social programs.

While lawmakers from Northern Nigeria may face pressure to heed the NEF’s advice, Jibrin’s remarks suggest that a majority of legislators might prioritize the potential benefits of the reforms over regional concerns.

The Tax Reform Bills are expected to undergo rigorous debate and scrutiny in the coming weeks as both chambers deliberate on their provisions and implications.
