Seven individuals were arraigned on Monday, February 3, before the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin for their alleged involvement in the murder of Awesu Mojisola, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa.

According to reports, the deceased was allegedly lured to Ilorin by Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole before being murdered and her corpse dumped at a dumpsite in Warah community, Ilorin, between August 8 and 9, 2024.

Mojisola had graduated from the college just three weeks prior to her tragic death.

The accused persons, including Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, who were identified as the prime suspects, were charged alongside Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi (Happiness’ parents), as well as Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus, who were employees of the hotel where Mojisola was allegedly killed.

The seven suspects faced a six-count charge, including conspiracy, murder, disappearance and destruction of evidence, and the unlawful disposal of a corpse.

The prosecution asserted that the offences contravened Sections 97, 221, and 167 of the Penal Code, CAP. P4, Laws of Kwara State, 2006, as well as Section 9 of the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.

During the court proceedings, the Kwara State Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. Ayoola Akande, led a team of five lawyers representing the prosecution, while Barristers F.A. Ahmed and A.I. Orisankoko appeared for the parents of Happiness Adebayo and the hotel employees.

However, the case could not proceed as the principal suspects, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, lacked legal representation.

Consequently, Justice Adebayo Yusuf ruled that they be remanded in a correctional facility pending their proper arraignment, adjourning the case until February 24, 2025.

The prosecution alleged that Happiness Adebayo, along with her parents, conspired to cause the disappearance and destruction of evidence, an offence punishable under the Penal Code Law of Kwara State, 2006.

Furthermore, Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus were accused of conspiring to dispose of Mojisola’s body at a dumpsite, an offence under the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.
