The seven suspects faced a six-count charge, including conspiracy, murder, disappearance and destruction of evidence, and the unlawful disposal of a corpse.

During the court proceedings, the Kwara State Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. Ayoola Akande, led a team of five lawyers representing the prosecution, while Barristers F.A. Ahmed and A.I. Orisankoko appeared for the parents of Happiness Adebayo and the hotel employees.
However, the case could not proceed as the principal suspects, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, lacked legal representation.
