The Nigeria Police Force has withdrawn its earlier invitation extended to Muhammad Sanusi II in relation to the violent incident that marred the Sallah celebration in Kano on March 30, 2025.
Grassroots Parrot reports that the Force had initially invited the former Emir to give his account of the events that led to a breakdown of law and order following the Sallah festivities.
However, the invitation was rescinded following consultations with key stakeholders and in a bid to avoid politicizing the matter.
“In line with the Inspector-General of Police’s commitment to ensuring that policing actions are not politicized or misinterpreted, the IGP has directed that the invitation be withdrawn,” said Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Sunday.

Adejobi added that officers from the Force Intelligence Department (FID) would instead be dispatched to Kano to obtain Sanusi’s statement.
According to the police, credible intelligence before the celebration indicated that both Alhaji Ado Bayero and Alhaji Sanusi — whose emirship remains a subject of contention — had plans to hold separate Durbar Festivals.
To avert possible violence, both parties and the state government reportedly agreed to forgo the traditional procession.
However, the statement alleges that Sanusi, after attending Eid prayers by car, later mounted a horse in defiance of the agreement.

The move allegedly sparked a confrontation with local youths, resulting in the death of one Usman Sagiru and several injuries.
The police have made some arrests and reaffirmed their commitment to a neutral and professional investigation.
“All individuals found culpable will be brought to justice,” Adejobi said.
He added that “The Force also wishes to reiterate that its actions are guided solely by the principles of justice, neutrality, and professionalism.”
