The Federal Government has transferred the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to a correctional facility in Sokoto State, his former lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, has confirmed.
Kanu was reportedly moved from the Department of State Services (DSS) detention centre in Abuja less than 24 hours after Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court handed him a life sentence following convictions on multiple terrorism charges. The judgement brought an end to years of legal battles that had spanned various courts.
Ejimakor, who shared the update in a post on X on Friday, said the sudden transfer would further hinder Kanu’s access to his legal representatives and family.

“MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones and well-wishers,” he wrote.
The relocation has sparked fresh concerns among supporters who argue that the move could complicate ongoing legal consultations and family visits.
