Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed false rumours of his death circulating on social media, assuring Nigerians that he is alive and well.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Old-Garage-Oke-Fia-Lameco Road in Osun State on Tuesday, Obasanjo expressed shock and disappointment over the misleading reports.

“I heard the rumour that I was dead. I saw it on social media. I quickly told my children and relatives that it was not true and that I am alive. Those who want me dead, that is their wish, but God still keeps me alive,” Obasanjo said in Yoruba.

He criticized those spreading such harmful speculation, saying, “This kind of rumour is disturbing and unacceptable. It shows how some people misuse technology.”

During the event, Obasanjo lauded Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for his development strides, predicting his re-election for a second term.

“When he came on board, some said he had nothing to offer except to dance. But he has proven them wrong. He is a good dancer and a great performer.

Governor Adeleke has delivered for the people of Osun, and I believe they will support him again,” Obasanjo stated.

Governor Adeleke used the occasion to highlight his administration’s achievements, including the construction of over 120 kilometers of roads and ongoing major infrastructure projects.

“My administration has constructed over 120 kilometers of roads across the state. Two major flyovers in Osogbo are nearing completion, alongside the Ile-Ife flyover and Ilesa dualisation.

“For the record, we have not taken any loans for our projects. We blocked financial leakages, utilized local content, and enforced high standards to moderate costs,” Adeleke said.

He also pledged to complete ongoing projects and address the infrastructure and social needs of Osun residents during the remainder of his tenure.
