The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied issuing any directive to corps members to upgrade their accounts for the payment of a N70,000 minimum wage.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Eddy Megwa, the NYSC described the circulating information on social media as “absolute falsehood.”
Megwa clarified that no directive concerning the payment of a new minimum wage has been received from any government body responsible for wage matters, making it impossible for the NYSC to have issued such instructions.

“Corps members, parents, and the public should note that no directive has been received from any relevant government sector responsible for wage matters,” Megwa stated. “It is therefore impossible for the NYSC to issue any directive on such.”
He urged corps members to disregard the misleading information and to rely on the approved communication channels within the scheme. “The NYSC, by this release, therefore, urges corps members to desist from allowing mischief makers to play on their intelligence,” he added.
Megwa also issued a warning to bloggers and social media influencers, cautioning them against publishing unauthorized statements regarding the management of the NYSC.

The statement comes in response to widespread rumors on social media suggesting that corps members needed to upgrade their accounts to receive a supposed N70,000 minimum wage, leading to confusion among current and prospective corps members.
The NYSC’s clarification aims to prevent any further misinformation and reassure corps members about the correct procedures for official communication.
