The Kano State Police Command has intensified its security operations with the launch of night patrols on Tuesday to enforce the existing ban on passenger motorcycles and the restriction on commercial tricycle operations from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. across designated parts of the state.
The enforcement follows renewed concerns over banditry and a recent influx of commercial motorcyclists into Kano, prompting authorities to strengthen security surveillance.
The joint operation involves police personnel working alongside officers of the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA).

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, made the development known via his official Facebook page on Wednesday, reiterating that the move is part of broader efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.
While confirming that several motorcycles and tricycles were impounded during the operation, Kiyawa did not disclose the exact number of seized vehicles. He also did not clarify whether motorcycles used strictly for private purposes were affected. According to him, all confiscated vehicles will be handed over to the court for appropriate action.

However, the enforcement exercise has sparked concerns among some residents, who accused the security operatives of indiscriminate arrests and overzealousness.
Residents are calling on the police to clearly differentiate between private and commercial motorcycle use to ensure lawful enforcement while maintaining efforts to tackle emerging security threats in the state.
The Police Command has yet to issue an official response to the concerns raised.
