Kano Govt Mourns Special Adviser’s Sudden Death Day After Swearing-In

The Kano State Government has been plunged into mourning following the sudden demise of Engr. Ahmad Ishaq Bunkure, the newly appointed Special Adviser on Works to Governor Abba Yusuf. His passing occurred barely 24 hours after his official swearing-in.

The tragic news was confirmed by the spokesperson to the Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in a statement released on Tuesday, January 8.

According to the statement, Engr. Bunkure passed away in Egypt, though further details surrounding the cause of death were not disclosed.

Engr. Bunkure was among the new appointees who took their oaths of office on Monday, January 6, 2025, during a ceremony presided over by Governor Yusuf.

His appointment was anticipated to play a pivotal role in advancing the administration’s development objectives, particularly in infrastructure and public works.

Governor Abba Yusuf expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing Engr. Bunkure as a committed and highly skilled professional whose contributions were expected to significantly impact the state’s progress.

“This is a heartbreaking moment for us as a government. Engr. Bunkure was a dedicated professional whose expertise and contributions were expected to drive our administration’s vision for development. His loss is deeply felt,” the governor stated in his condolence message.

The late Engr. Ahmad Ishaq Bunkure’s death has sent shockwaves across Kano State, with colleagues, friends, and well-wishers expressing grief and extending their condolences to his family.

Many have taken to social media to pay tribute to the engineer, remembering his commitment and passion for public service.

Engr. Bunkure is survived by his wife, children, and extended family members. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

The state government has called for prayers for the repose of his soul and strength for his family to bear the loss.
