Kano Govt Budgets N2.5 Billion For Mass Weddings In 2025

The Kano State Government has allocated N2.5 billion for the conduct of quarterly mass weddings across the 44 local government areas of the state in 2025.

This was disclosed by the State’s Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, while presenting the breakdown of the State’s 2025 budget, which was passed into law by the State House of Assembly on Friday, January 31.

According to Shanono, the mass wedding initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to spend N91.32 billion in the governance and service delivery sector for various programs and services aimed at fostering social welfare and development.

He explained that the commitment to mass weddings is to promote responsibility, openness, and human rights while ensuring a fair society that supports sustainable growth and improves citizens’ living standards.

Additionally, Shanono highlighted other allocations within the budget, including N1,000,000,000 for Ramadan feeding, N955,000,000 for a manpower statistics survey, a general household survey, and out-of-school children statistics.

Also, N1,049,000,000 for the purchase of printing machines, rehabilitation of the general water system, and procurement of library equipment for the Government Printing Press.

Furthermore, N267,615,310.86 has been earmarked for the provision and equipping of infrastructure, the production and printing of the Islamic calendar, and support for Islamic Da’wah programs, including welfare packages for new converts to Islam.

Other notable allocations include N589,000,000 for security research and empowerment development, as well as street begging intervention activities.

Additionally, N200,000,000 is set aside for the procurement of office furniture, general maintenance of the accountant-general’s office, and the development of Public Financial Management (PFM) software and reform activities.

The commissioner also revealed that the approved 2025 budget has a total size of N719,755,417,663.00, marking an increase of N170,595,000.00, equivalent to 31%, over the initial submission of N549,160,417,663.00 by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the State House of Assembly.

Shanono further noted that the total recurrent expenditure stands at N262,670,660,562.65, while the total capital expenditure amounts to N457,084,757,100.35. This represents a 65% increase from the 2024 budget, which was raised by N282,417,104,875.07.

The Kano State Government’s 2025 budget reflects its commitment to social welfare, infrastructure development, and governance reforms aimed at improving the well-being of its citizens.
