Vice Chancellors of Nigerian universities have agreed to adopt 150 as the minimum Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) cut-off mark for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The decision was reached through a voice vote at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held in Abuja on Tuesday. The meeting was presided over by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
According to the resolutions of the meeting, while universities will admit candidates who scored a minimum of 150, polytechnics and colleges of education have settled on a cut-off mark of 100. This benchmark also applies to colleges of agriculture across the country.

Prof. Oloyede emphasized that the agreed cut-off marks serve only as minimum entry points, and institutions are free to raise their requirements based on internal policies and available admission quotas.
“The institutions still reserve the autonomy to determine their own cut-off marks above the national minimum, based on their capacity and competitiveness,” he noted.
The policy meeting brought together heads of tertiary institutions, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders in the education sector to review admission guidelines, assess the current academic calendar, and chart the way forward for a seamless 2025/2026 admission exercise.
