The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced the arrest of 25 persons following the disruption of an alleged same-sex marriage ceremony in the state.

The operation, which took place on Saturday night, was conducted at an event centre located along Hotoro Bypass in Tarauni Local Government Area.

Confirming the incident, the Deputy Commander General (Special Operations) of the Board, Sheikh Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar, said the arrests followed an intelligence tip-off from a concerned resident.

According to him, the information indicated that one Abubakar Idris was allegedly planning to marry another young man in a secret ceremony.

“Hisbah operatives acted swiftly based on credible intelligence and stormed the venue where a party was ongoing under dim lighting. On arrival, our personnel discovered a gathering of young men and women engaged in what appeared to be a marriage ceremony,” Dr. Mujahid said.

He disclosed that 25 individuals were apprehended at the scene — 18 men, identified as ’yan daudu (effeminate men), and seven women from different areas including Sheka, Yar Gaya, and Kofar Nasarawa.

Dr. Mujahid stated that all suspects are currently in Hisbah custody and will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

He appealed to parents and guardians to instill moral discipline in their children and called on residents to report suspicious activities to Hisbah or other relevant authorities.

“The Hisbah Board remains committed to promoting moral values, ensuring social order, and preserving Kano State’s reputation as a community guided by Islamic principles,” he added.
