Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested 26 individuals during a weekend raid on Grace Palace Hotel, located near Bukavu Barracks in Kano metropolis, over alleged involvement in immoral activities.

The Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, confirmed the arrests on Monday, stating that the operation was conducted on Saturday following repeated complaints from members of the public about suspected unlawful behaviour at the hotel.

According to Dr. Aminuddeen, the arrested individuals include 14 women and 12 men who were allegedly caught in the act during the raid.

“We received persistent reports from concerned citizens about immoral activities taking place at the hotel. The 26 persons were arrested during the operation,” he stated.

The Hisbah official noted that several of those taken into custody were found to be intoxicated, and cartons of assorted alcoholic beverages were also confiscated at the scene.

“We want to seize this opportunity to appeal to members of the public to continue to report such immoral activities, whether in hotels or residential houses, so that prompt action can be taken,” he added.

Dr. Aminuddeen expressed appreciation to the military authorities stationed nearby for their support in ensuring a smooth operation.

“We commend the military authorities and their commander for the cooperation that enabled us to carry out the raid without incident,” he said.

He emphasized that the board’s enforcement efforts would continue across the state as part of its broader campaign to curb social vices and uphold public morality.

“This operation is part of a wider and ongoing exercise aimed at sanitising the state. We will not relent in our efforts to arrest and prosecute those who engage in acts that contravene our moral and religious values,” Dr. Aminuddeen concluded.

The Kano Hisbah Board, an Islamic moral enforcement agency, is tasked with promoting Islamic values and curbing practices considered contrary to Sharia law in the state.
