Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has dismissed speculations surrounding the recent cabinet reshuffle, describing the decision as a strategic measure taken in good faith and in the best interest of the state.

The reshuffle, which affected the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the State Government, and five commissioners, has stirred political debates.

Speaking to journalists during the state executive council meeting on Wednesday at the Government House, Yusuf refuted claims that the shake-up was politically motivated.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Sanusi Bature, the governor clarified that the changes were necessary to reinvigorate his administration and deliver effectively on its campaign promises.

“Recently, we made some decisions, including a cabinet reshuffle. As a result, some individuals lost their positions while others were reassigned to new roles. Let me reiterate that this action was taken in the best interest of the good people of Kano State,” the statement read.

Governor Yusuf explained that the move was essential to inject fresh energy into the administration and strengthen the implementation of government policies.

He emphasized that fulfilling the campaign promises of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) required proactive steps to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

“The NNPP administration is committed to delivering the dividends of democracy. To achieve this, we needed to effect changes that would accelerate the process.

This reshuffle is aimed at improving the system and ensuring we meet our goals within the limited time available,” he stated.

Seven new commissioners, recently screened and cleared by the Kano State House of Assembly, have been appointed to fill the vacant positions.

The governor expressed optimism that the new appointees would bring innovative ideas to drive social and infrastructural development in the state.

Yusuf reassured those affected by the reshuffle that they would not be sidelined permanently, promising to reassign them to other roles within the administration.

“For those who were reassigned, we urge them to leverage their previous experiences in their new positions.

And for those who were dropped, let me assure them that they remain valuable members of our administration and will be called upon to serve the state in other capacities,” Yusuf added.

The governor also disclosed that the newly appointed commissioners would participate in the next executive council meeting, during which their respective portfolios would be announced.

He urged Kano residents to support the administration’s decisions and reiterated his commitment to delivering on his promises to the people.

“We remain dedicated to the progress and development of Kano State. These changes were made in good faith to ensure that our administration’s objectives are met effectively,” Yusuf concluded.
