Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered a thorough investigation into the controversial sentencing of a young man to death by hanging for stealing a fowl.

This directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday evening by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson.

Governor Adeleke expressed deep concern over the case, emphasizing the need for justice and fairness. He instructed the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to intervene and take steps to include the young man in the list for prerogative of mercy before the end of the year.

“I have read about the case. I recognise the separation of powers in our democracy. In this particular case, I have directed the Commissioner for Justice to initiate processes to grant prerogative of mercy to the young man,” the governor said.

Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice and the sanctity of human lives. He assured the public that the matter was being given urgent attention by the state government.

“Osun is a land of justice and equity. We must ensure fairness and protection of the sanctity of lives. I assure the public that the matter is receiving my direct attention. A sense of urgency is also attached to our response to the matter as a responsible state government,” he added.
