Controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, may face fresh criminal charges following allegations that he bribed officials to serve his jail term in a private apartment and influenced the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges against him.
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on April 12 for currency abuse and released on August 5. However, allegations surfaced after social critic Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, released an audio recording where Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have paid EFCC officers ₦15 million to avoid further legal charges.

Additionally, he purportedly bribed Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) officials to serve his sentence outside the Kirikiri Custodial Centre.
In response, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo appointed a panel, chaired by Permanent Secretary Magdalena Ajani, on September 30 to investigate the matter.
The panel’s report, released Friday, found no evidence that Bobrisky stayed outside the custodial facility but suggested he defamed the NCoS by alleging bribery.
It recommended defamation charges against him and called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to further investigate the bribery claims. If confirmed, Bobrisky could face charges under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act.

The report also implicated four correctional officers in procedural violations, including former Controller of Corrections Ben Rabbi-Freeman, who allegedly backdated documentation related to Bobrisky’s transfer between custodial centers. Disciplinary actions were recommended for all officers involved.
The panel further urged the NCoS to audit custodial records and implement reforms to ensure stricter oversight, decoupling inmate welfare services from commercial interests, and expanding non-custodial measures to reduce overcrowding.
