Amid the ongoing amendment of the Kano State Emirate Council Law, 2023, by the Kano State House of Assembly, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, embarked on a historic royal visit to the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Ogun State, Oba Sikiru Kayode, on Wednesday.

The Emir of Kano, accompanied by a retinue of aides and chiefs, paid homage to the Awujale, whom he fondly described as his father.

Drawing on a deep familial connection, the Emir highlighted the close association between the Awujale and his late father, Alhaji Ado Bayero, the late Emir of Kano.

He remarked, “Awujale is someone who has been on par with my forefathers for 64 years, and I am privileged to still have people like him around at 90.”

In a poignant moment of reflection, Bayero underscored the similarities between Kano and Ijebu, likening them to twins in terms of their rich cultural heritage and vibrant commercial activities.

“Kano and Ijebu, I look at them like twins as far as I am concerned, especially in terms of commercial activities,” he remarked.

“We all know Ijebu very well; Kano is a carbon copy, or I will say Ijebu is a carbon copy of Kano. The truth is, we have a lot of things in common that relate to culture, tradition, and commercial activities.”

In response, the Awujale warmly recounted the longstanding relationship between himself and the late Emir of Kano, expressing gratitude for the Emir’s visit and advocating for unity and harmony among Nigerians.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ganiyu Hamzat, lauded the royal visit as a testament to the enduring bonds of unity and mutual respect across diverse tribes in the country.
