President Bola Tinubu, on Friday, bestowed the second highest national honor, the Grand Commander of the Order of Nigeria (GCON), upon the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to national development.
The prestigious honor was conferred during the 90th birthday celebration of the paramount ruler, held at the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
Representing President Tinubu at the ceremony, Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed the nation’s gratitude for Oba Sikiru Adetona’s invaluable service.

In addition to the honor, President Tinubu announced a significant development regarding the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance.
He also revealed that the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, has been tasked with assuming the management of the institution, a testament to the esteemed position it holds in national educational endeavors.
In his address, President Tinubu lauded the Awujale as an extraordinary royal figure and a beacon of democracy in Nigeria.
