Some suspected Yoruba Nation agitators, on Saturday, invaded the Oyo State Government Secretariat, located in Agodi, Ibadan, the state capital.

The incident compelled businesses and residents within that axis including Bodija and Awolowo Avenue to stay within houses and keep their shops under lock and key.

The masked men were stationed at different locations within the area, sending panic to the residents and road users along the routes.

Efforts of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (retd.), to calm the situation were abortive, as the agitators insisted on hoisting their flag within the Secretariat.

The security operatives manning the state secretariat could not disperse the agitators, until the arrival of the policemen and soldiers, who doused the tension after succeeding in chasing them away.

The combined team of security operatives including soldiers took over the area, blocking entry and exit points to the Oyo State Government Secretariat. Traffic was thereafter diverted from the place.

Meanwhile, police authorities in Oyo State say they have arrested 20 suspects over the invasion of the state government premises in Agodi, Ibadan.

Some weapons, ammunition, and ATMS recovered from the suspects include (3) three pump action guns, (291)two hundred and ninety-one life cartridges, (2) two expended cartridges, (67) and sixty-seven cutlasses.

Others are five bulletproof vest, six pair of boots, ten megaphone (public address system), three Oodua styles beret caps, seven belts, eleven Oodua Nation army camouflage uniforms, one unregistered Nissan Urban Caravan bus and three TVs motor motorcycles.

According to a statement by the Oyo State police command, Osifeso Adewale, the invaders were suspected members of the Yoruba Nation group, declaring the attack as criminal and unpatriotic, a clear case of treasonable felony and terrorism which would be met with adequate sanctions under the laws of the land.

Adewale said investigations have been launched into the matter, adding that the team leading the investigation includes the “Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department”.
