The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has impounded more than 30 vehicles for violating regulations on tinted windows, concealed number plates, and improper registration.
Speaking in Abuja, FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the enforcement exercise is aimed at curbing crimes such as kidnapping, one-chance robberies, and other criminal activities often linked to the use of such vehicles.
According to him, intelligence reports indicate that criminals frequently use tinted vehicles and obscured number plates to conceal their identities and evade detection by security agencies.
Sanusi disclosed that the operation followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police to begin strict enforcement of existing regulations.

He stressed that the exercise is intended to enhance public safety rather than inconvenience law-abiding residents.
The police commissioner warned that owners of impounded vehicles would be prosecuted in line with relevant laws and urged residents to support the initiative by reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
However, questions remain over the legal status of the Nigeria Police Force’s tinted glass permit policy, following a court order that led to the suspension of its nationwide enforcement earlier this year.
