Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly attacked a Primary and Junior Secondary School in Mussa village, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Grassroots Parrot reports reports that the attackers abducted an unspecified number of students.
Sources in the community said the attackers, who arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, stormed the school early Friday shortly after troops stationed in the area left the town.
A resident said several children were allegedly taken during the attack, although the number of abducted students could not be independently verified.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Askira, said details of the attack were still unclear, noting that many students fled into nearby bushes during the invasion.
He described the attack as unfortunate, adding that the insurgents appeared to have monitored the movement of security personnel before launching the assault.
Meanwhile, social media users have continued to call for prayers and urgent intervention over the incident and the reported abduction of schoolchildren.
Efforts to get an official response from the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Kenneth Daso, were unsuccessful as calls and messages sent to him were not answered.
