The Police Service Commission has strongly condemned the alleged extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi by police officers attached to the Effurun Area Command in Delta State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on April 26, 2026, has drawn sharp criticism from the Commission, which described the act as a grave violation of both Nigerian laws and international standards governing the use of force.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by TORTY NJOKU KALU, spokesperson of the commission said the killing contravenes key legal frameworks, including the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Anti-Torture Act 2017, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, the Nigeria Police Act 2020, and the Nigeria Police Force Regulations 2025.
“The act violates Nigerian laws and international humanitarian standards, including the International Humanitarian Law and other extant legal provisions,” the Commission stated.

The PSC, however, commended the Delta State Commissioner of Police for taking swift action by initiating disciplinary measures against the officers involved, including their suspension and interdiction pending the outcome of investigations.
“The Commission commends the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, for commencing disciplinary action against the officers involved,” the statement added.
While extending condolences to the family of the deceased, the statement urged members of the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
“The Commission extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and enjoins members of the public to remain calm as justice takes its course.”
