The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Wednesday reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the nullification of its 2025 national convention.
A five-member panel led by Justice Lawal Garba announced that the judgment date will be communicated to all parties after lawyers adopted their final written arguments.
The Turaki faction is seeking to overturn the March 9 ruling of the Court of Appeal, which upheld earlier decisions voiding the party’s Ibadan convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025.
At the apex court, the faction argued that the matter is an internal party affair and not subject to court intervention, insisting that due process was followed in conducting the convention.
However, lower courts had consistently ruled against the group, nullifying the exercise, restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising its outcome, and issuing orders affecting access to the party’s national secretariat.

The Court of Appeal had earlier affirmed two Federal High Court judgments in Abuja, which stopped the convention over alleged violations of the Electoral Act and party guidelines.
In one ruling, Justice James Omotosho held that the party failed to conduct valid state congresses, while Justice Peter Lifu also barred the convention until former Jigawa governor Sule Lamido was allowed to contest the national chairmanship.
The legal disputes stem from suits filed by aggrieved party members across different zones, deepening the PDP’s ongoing leadership crisis now awaiting final determination by the Supreme Court.
