Fubara Sacks All Commissioners, Advisers 48 Hours After Meeting Tinubu, Wike

FUBARA

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council, ordering all commissioners and special advisers to vacate their positions with immediate effect.

Grassroots Parrot reports that the announcement was made on Thursday in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.

According to the statement, affected officials have been directed to hand over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries pending further decisions.

Governor Fubara thanked the outgoing cabinet members for their contributions to the development of the state and wished them success in their future endeavours.

The development comes barely 48 hours after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, confirmed renewed reconciliation efforts to resolve the lingering political crisis in Rivers State.

Wike disclosed that President Bola Tinubu recently met with key political stakeholders from the state, including Governor Fubara and his predecessor, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The closed-door meeting was part of efforts to ease tensions stemming from the protracted power struggle in the oil-rich state.

The intervention follows an ongoing impeachment process initiated against Fubara by lawmakers believed to be loyal to Wike. The latest impeachment notice, the third so far, is currently the subject of legal proceedings.

Speaking on Tuesday after inspecting projects in Abuja, Wike said the meeting was convened at the instance of President Tinubu, who is seeking a lasting resolution to the crisis.

“I remember this is the second time the President is intervening and, by the grace of God, this will be the last,” Wike said, adding that he had urged the Rivers State House of Assembly to comply with the President’s directive while expressing confidence that the governor would also play his part in restoring peace.

Reports further indicated that after the meeting, Governor Fubara accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja — a move observers interpreted as a possible sign of easing hostilities.

However, it remains uncertain whether the pro-Wike lawmakers will withdraw the impeachment notice or if the latest peace efforts will produce a lasting truce.
