Gov. Abba Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has vowed to sign the death warrants of suspects arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of Mrs. Fatima Abubakar and her six children in the Chiranci Dorayi area of Kano, if they are convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The governor also extended the same stance to the killers of Hanifa and the Gezawa arsonists, who set several people ablaze, declaring that his administration would not shy away from enforcing the full weight of the law against perpetrators of heinous crimes in the state.

Governor Yusuf gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the family of the slain woman and her children, describing the incident as heartbreaking and unacceptable in a society governed by law.

In the pursuit of justice, the governor directed the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to fast-track the prosecution of all suspects already arrested in connection with the killings.

Beyond justice, Yusuf announced an extensive welfare package for the bereaved husband and father, Haruna Bashir, whose wife and six children were brutally murdered a few days ago.

The approved package includes full sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah, the provision of a new house, and continuous government welfare support to help him rebuild his life.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, said Governor Yusuf expressed deep sympathy over the tragic loss and assured the family of the state government’s commitment to rehabilitating the bereaved father.

“Governor Yusuf expressed deep sympathy over the tragic incident and assured the family of the state government’s commitment to rehabilitating the bereaved father and restoring his social life,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the governor directed that a new and befitting house be provided for Bashir and pledged sustained welfare assistance. He also disclosed that the state would support the man to remarry, should he find a suitable partner, and take care of all necessary requirements to enable him to start a new life.

Governor Yusuf further commended the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies for their synergy and swift action that led to the arrest of the suspects linked to the killings.

In a gesture of appreciation for the government’s intervention, the bereaved father, Haruna Bashir, announced the donation of his personal house to the Kano State Government for the construction of an Islamiyya school to serve the Chiranci Dorayi community.

The governor described the gesture as a reflection of resilience and faith, assuring the community that justice would be served and that the state would continue to protect lives and property of the people.
