The Kebbi State Government has ordered the immediate shutdown of all its government-owned tertiary institutions, directing students and staff to vacate their campuses without delay.

The directive was first communicated through a notice issued by the Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, dated November 22, 2025, and signed by the University Registrar, Maimaro Alhaji Tilli.

In the memo titled “IMMEDIATE CLOSURE OF THE UNIVERSITY,” the institution announced that it had been instructed by the Vice-Chancellor to close activities indefinitely.

“I’m directed by the Vice-Chancellor to inform all staff and students that the university is hereby shut down until further notice. This takes immediate effect. All students (postgraduate, undergraduate, Diploma, Remedial and IJMB) are to leave the university campus within an hour from this notice,” the statement read.

The university further warned that its security division had been mandated to enforce the order, stating that any student found in hostels or anywhere on campus would be forcibly removed. Students living off-campus, including those in Gidan Rami and nearby areas, were also advised to vacate their accommodations immediately to avoid confrontations with security personnel.

A similar announcement, with reference number AACE/R/AD/14/VOL.1, was issued by Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu. Signed by the College Registrar, Hussaini Samaila, the notice instructed all concerned persons to leave the college premises at once.

As of Friday, all boarding schools across Kebbi State were also directed to shut down, extending the closure beyond tertiary institutions.

However, the notices did not disclose the reasons behind the sudden statewide shutdown. Authorities have yet to comment on the circumstances leading to the directive or how long the closure will last.

The abrupt order has caused anxiety among students and parents as they await clarification from the state government.
