A devastating fire outbreak has claimed the lives of four members of a family in the early hours of Wednesday at Kundila Layin Baba Impossible in the Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the tragic incident, revealing that the emergency call was received at exactly 4:13 am from a concerned staff member who noticed the flames.
Upon arrival, firefighters met a ground-floor residential building engulfed in fire, with the blaze consuming two bedrooms, a parlour, a kitchen, and a toilet.
Five people were trapped. The victims were identified as Shodandi, aged about 43; his wife Rafi’a, aged about 30; and two young daughters identified as Mardiya, aged about 3, and Yusira, aged about one and a half.

According to the Fire Service, “Four of them were burnt to death.”
However, in the midst of the tragedy, a glimmer of hope emerged as 12-year-old Aminu Shodandi was rescued alive from the burning structure.
The agency expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, saying:
“The director and entire staff of this agency offer their condolences to the families of those who died.”
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was likely triggered by a mosquito coil the family lit in their parlour before going to bed—a common but risky practice, especially during the harmattan season.
The Fire Service urged residents to exercise caution:
“We call on the public to be more careful with fire, particularly during the harmattan.”
