A powerful explosion on Saturday rocked the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory in the Kakuri Industrial Layout of Kaduna State, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
The blast, whose cause is yet to be determined, was reportedly heard across several parts of the city, particularly in communities within Chikun and Kaduna South Local Government Areas.
Eyewitnesses who spoke with newsmen described the explosion as severe, with tremors felt in nearby neighbourhoods. One resident said, “The sound was so loud that houses around Kakuri and beyond shook; people came out in fear, thinking it was a bomb attack.”

Sources confirmed that one person died in the incident, while multiple victims sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities, including the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna, for urgent treatment.
Although details remain sketchy, security and emergency personnel have moved to the site of the incident. Officials are expected to commence a full-scale investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and assess the extent of damage within and around the DICON premises.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kaduna State Government nor DICON authorities have released an official statement on the tragic development.
