Operatives of the Osun State Police Command have arrested six suspected cultists in connection with a violent clash that left two students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, injured on September 8.

The confrontation, said to be between members of the Buccaneers confraternity and rival groups, escalated into gunfire within the school premises, causing panic among students and staff.

Police spokesperson, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, noting that officers from the Anti-Cultism Unit acted swiftly on intelligence reports.

“The Anti-Cultism Unit, while on township patrol, received reports of armed cultists engaging in a shootout within the school premises. Two students were injured in the process. Acting on the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, operatives swiftly responded and arrested three suspects on the spot. Further investigations led to the arrest of three more suspects the following day,” Ojelabi stated.

Those arrested include Oluwadamilare Temitope (23), Ayodeji John (24), and Adepoju Adesoji (27) at the scene of the incident, while Yusuf Abeeb (24), Fatai Quadri (24), and Lateef Abiodun (23) were later apprehended during a follow-up operation on September 9.

The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion.
