Former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has passed away.

The news of his death was announced on Saturday afternoon, July 13, 2025, by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Ahmad wrote: “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.”

According to reports, the former president died in a private clinic in the United Kingdom, where he had been receiving medical attention. Further details surrounding the circumstances of his death have not been disclosed.

Buhari, 82, served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC). A retired Major General, he had earlier ruled Nigeria as military head of state from 1983 to 1985 before returning to power through the ballot box three decades later.

Tributes have begun to pour in from political leaders, former colleagues, and Nigerians across the country and in the diaspora, remembering Buhari as a leader who shaped key moments in the nation’s history.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
