Bashir El-Rufai, son of the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has sparked political speculation after displaying the logo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on his verified Facebook page on Monday.
The move comes amid swirling rumours that his father is considering leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bashir’s post contained no text, leaving political observers to interpret its significance. However, it has further fueled speculation about the political direction of the El-Rufai family, especially as his father has been reportedly engaging in high-level political consultations across the country.

Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor and key figure in the APC, has recently met with influential politicians, including former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as part of discussions on the possible formation of a mega party or coalition to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 presidential elections.
Despite the ongoing speculations, El-Rufai has consistently denied rumours of his defection from the APC. He has maintained that he remains a loyal member of the party, even as reports suggest he is at the center of strategic political realignments ahead of 2027.
Bashir’s decision to share the SDP logo without any accompanying explanation has led to varied reactions from political analysts and the general public. Some believe it could be an indication of shifting political alliances within the El-Rufai camp, while others argue it may simply be a symbolic or personal statement by Bashir himself.
