GUNMEN 2

Kwara State has been thrown into mourning following the assassination of the leader of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina. He was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Saturday night in front of his residence in Oke Ose, Ilorin.

Sources revealed that the attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. when the assailants accosted him and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene without taking any of his belongings.

“His attackers left him in the pool of his blood. They didn’t collect anything from him, and their motive for such an action is surprising,” a source disclosed.

A witness, Aina’u Sarki, recounted that she was with the deceased just minutes before the tragic incident.

“I was with him 20 minutes before he was killed. Someone called me on the phone and told me that he was shot dead,” she said.

The Special Assistant to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Inter-Community Relations (Fulani), Muhammed Abdullahi, confirmed the killing, stating that security operatives had already launched an investigation.

“Yes, he was killed in front of his residence on Saturday night by some gunmen who left him for dead. We are preparing for his janaza as I speak to you now, but the police were here yesterday and have started an investigation,” Abdullahi said.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, acknowledged inquiries from journalists but had yet to provide an official statement at the time of filing this report.

The deceased, aged 32, was a former Special Assistant to the Moro Local Government Chairman and a prominent youth leader among the Fulani community in Kwara State.

Residents and stakeholders have expressed shock over the killing, urging the authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The tragic incident adds to the growing security concerns in the state, prompting calls for increased efforts in tackling violent crimes.
