Gov. Yusuf Replies Ganduje, Says My Performance Will Speak For Me

In a firm response to allegations suggesting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may attempt to manipulate the 2027 elections in Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has vowed to safeguard his mandate and resist any undue pressure.

Speaking during the monthly Women Empowerment Program at Coronation Hall on Tuesday, the Governor declared that his focus remains on delivering good governance, while re-election concerns are secondary.

This was contained in a press release issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. The Governor’s remarks come amid growing political tension fueled by opposition rhetoric in the state.

“What I am worried about is not re-election. I am more concerned about delivering the dividends of democracy on the mandate given to me in this first tenure. I want the good people of Kano to judge me by my performance at the end of this tenure,” Governor Yusuf stated.

Governor Yusuf expressed concern over what he described as attempts by “enemies of Kano” to disrupt political stability.

“We know those people who were massively rejected in both 2019 and 2023. We won against them at a time when we had no political office—not even a councillor. But Allah made it possible for us to win with a landslide victory,” he said.

The Governor further cautioned APC leaders in Kano to desist from making inciting statements and hate speeches, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and encouraging voter participation.

“I am destined to be a Governor. It is my total belief and submission to the will of Allah that if He so wills, I will serve a second term. If not, I won’t. So why should I bother myself?” he asked.

The APC’s significant defeat in Kano during the 2023 elections remains a sore point for the opposition. The party lost the governorship seat, two senatorial positions, 18 out of 26 House of Representatives seats, and 26 out of 40 State Assembly seats to the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

Governor Yusuf’s administration has since prioritized initiatives to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of Kano residents.

Reiterating his commitment to his first-term agenda, Governor Yusuf highlighted the ongoing efforts to deliver key projects and programs.

“The mandate I have been given is a trust, and my primary focus is to ensure that the people of Kano benefit from the fruits of their decision. Leadership is ordained by the Almighty Allah,” he said.
