A fierce gun battle between soldiers and suspected bandits erupted last night at Aba branch in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, leaving scores dead and many others injured as reported by The Nation.

The attack reportedly began when a group of armed non-state actors launched an assault on soldiers stationed in the area. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with intense exchanges of gunfire reverberating throughout the community.

“Some non-state actors attacked and killed some soldiers in the area yesterday,” a source who wished to remain anonymous confirmed. “The whole place is on fire, and troops have taken over nearby communities.” As a result, many residents were forced to flee their homes in panic, seeking safety as the gunfire continued through the night.

“We are terrified,” said a local resident who also requested anonymity. “The sound of gunfire is still echoing in our ears. We don’t know what will happen next. We are worried; Ehime used to be a serene environment, and now we are living in fear.”

Local authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident. The identities and exact number of casualties have not been confirmed, but eyewitnesses indicated that the clash led to a significant loss of life on both sides.

The gun battle is the latest in a series of violent security breaches that have rocked Imo State, raising concerns over the escalating tension and its impact on civilian lives. Similar incidents have become frequent in recent months, with armed groups increasingly targeting security forces and civilians alike in the region.

As the area remains tense, there are fears of further confrontations, as troops have reportedly taken over nearby communities to contain the situation.

The heavy military presence has created a climate of fear and uncertainty among residents, many of whom have expressed frustration and anxiety over the deteriorating security.

The clash has sparked renewed calls for enhanced security measures and a more strategic approach to tackling the growing threat of banditry and other forms of violence in Imo State.

Community leaders and residents have urged the government to prioritize the safety and protection of lives and property in the region.

Further details on the incident are expected as the situation develops.
