The 2023 Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the party’s policies have exacerbated poverty and hunger in Nigeria.
Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State, made these remarks during the 7th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NNPP, held in Abuja.
He accused the APC of being out of touch with the realities facing Nigerians and failing to tackle the nation’s security issues. He also took aim at the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a “dead party” amid its internal crises and declining popularity.
In contrast, he argued that the NNPP is growing rapidly and is now the only political party capable of providing true leadership to address the needs of Nigerians and offer a path out of the country’s current challenges.

Kwankwaso expressed satisfaction with the NNPP’s performance, noting that its growth has attracted both internal and external envy. He recounted an earlier statement made during a visit to Katsina State, where he declared the PDP to be “dead.” He said, “I’m sure, at that time, many didn’t understand what I was saying, but now they must agree with us that the party is falling apart and is imploding.”
Commenting on the APC, Kwankwaso asserted, “You can see that its leadership is detached from reality, while the people of this country are suffering. They may believe they are doing well, but all of us, especially the voters, know they are performing poorly, particularly when it comes to security, the level of poverty in the country, and the hunger we’re witnessing.”
Highlighting the NNPP’s progress, Kwankwaso thanked party members for their commitment, adding, “Our party has been doing so well that we, at the leadership level, are satisfied with our progress. Today, our party is the fastest-growing party in this country.”
Also speaking at the NEC meeting, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Engineer Buba Galadima, said, “While other parties are faltering, people are flocking into the NNPP. There is no party growing as fast as the NNPP. Our party enforces discipline at all levels, and we follow the rules without faltering.”
Galadima also praised the NNPP’s leadership quality, stating that it stands out compared to other political parties in Nigeria. He claimed that this success has led to envy from other parties.
Earlier, the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, expressed satisfaction with the party’s membership drive and announced the introduction of a new membership card. He called on members to obtain the new card, reiterating that strong leadership is essential for the party’s continued growth.
He urged the party’s recently appointed caretaker committees (CTCs) in Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe, Oyo, and Benue states to provide solid leadership.
