Residents of Mpape in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja are in a state of panic after experiencing continuous tremors and vibrations over the past five days.
Dr. Ebenezer Adebisi, Chairman of the Mpape Hills Landlord Association, confirmed the development on Tuesday, noting that this is not the first time the area has experienced such disturbances, though this recent occurrence has been more intense and prolonged.
Adebisi, a retired Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), explained that while occasional vibrations due to quarry blasting are common in Mpape, the recent tremors have been stronger and more unsettling.
He added that residents had felt heightened vibrations throughout Sunday and Monday night, leading to growing concerns about the cause.

“We don’t really know what could have caused the vibration,” Adebisi said. He also mentioned that residents in neighboring Gwarinpa and Katampe areas had reported similar experiences, but there has been no official communication from the government so far.
Adebisi called on the Nigerian government and the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) to urgently investigate the tremors and advise residents on what actions to take.
Other residents of Mpape also shared their experiences. Florence Ilesanmi, a resident of Gwari Village, Mpape, and Aisha Lawal, from the Crushrock area, both confirmed the tremors and expressed their concerns about the increasing frequency of the vibrations.

An official from the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, speaking anonymously, urged residents to consider temporary relocation if the tremors persist. The official advised that residents should record the frequency of the vibrations and remain vigilant in case the situation escalates.
The NGSA has reportedly deployed equipment to monitor the situation closely, with officials advising evacuation if the tremors intensify. Despite these warnings, the cause of the vibrations remains unclear, and residents await further guidance from authorities.
