The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has claimed to know the true sponsor behind the #EndBadGovernance protests that swept across the country in early August.
Contrary to allegations that certain individuals or groups orchestrated the demonstrations, the PDP asserts that the driving force behind the unrest is the widespread hunger and economic hardship plaguing the nation.
The protests, which took place between August 1 and 10, saw Nigerians in various cities take to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the prevailing economic conditions. The demonstrations called for an end to bad governance, highlighting the increasing hardship faced by citizens due to rising costs of living and unemployment.

Addressing a press conference at the PDP headquarters in Abuja on Monday, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, spoke on the government’s response to the protests, particularly the arrest of Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Ologunagba criticized the government’s approach, urging it to focus on alleviating hunger rather than targeting individuals who participated in the protests.
“There is a need for caution. There was a protest in this country; the government did not do anything. You arrest some people and say they were terrorists, and you charge them to court. You say some people were the sponsors of the protest,” Ologunagba said.

“We know those who sponsored the protest. The sponsor is hungry. The President and his people should arrest hunger, and there will be no problem.”
The PDP spokesperson further emphasized the impact of the government’s economic policies on the lives of ordinary Nigerians, particularly as the new school year approaches. He highlighted the growing financial burden on families and the struggles they face in providing for their children’s education amidst the harsh economic condition.
“The President and his administration need to reconsider their policies that are draconian and that are bringing people to their knees,” Ologunagba added. “This is the season schools are resuming; we know what people are going through.”

The PDP’s remarks signal a growing pressure on the government to find solutions to the country’s deepening economic struggles.
