Yoruba Nation Agitator Sunday Igboho Pleads For FG’s Pardon

Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has appealed to the Federal Government to reconsider its stance on his designation as a wanted person.

Igboho made this appeal during a courtesy visit to the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, at his palace in the Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State on Tuesday.

Speaking during the visit, Igboho expressed concern over the lingering issues surrounding his status, saying he had been unfairly treated by the previous administration despite not being a criminal.

“I don’t understand why the previous administration declared me wanted.” I have committed no crime,” he said. “I cannot even use my Nigerian passport or access my bank accounts just because I chose to defend the interests of Yorubaland.”

He revealed that his return to Nigeria from Germany was only made possible through the intervention of Oba Alao, adding that he had long desired to visit home but feared arrest or harassment.

“Without Kabiyesi’s intervention, I wouldn’t have made this trip. I couldn’t come to Nigeria, let alone sleep in my house in Ibadan,” Igboho stated.

The activist, who fled Nigeria in 2021 after a raid on his Ibadan residence by security operatives, said life in exile has been difficult and pleaded for help to regain his freedom and rights.

“I’m tired of staying in exile,” he said, while calling on both Oba Alao and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, to intervene and engage with the Federal Government on his behalf.

In response, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon assured Igboho of his support, stating that steps would be taken to formally appeal to the authorities.

“We will write a letter to the Federal Government and also to the governors in the Southwest. Sunday Igboho is not a criminal and must not be treated as such,” Oba Alao said.

He also announced plans to recommend Igboho as the head of a proposed local vigilante group for the South-West region.
