The House of Representatives has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, which includes the six-month suspension of Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and all elected assembly members.
The approval came through a voice vote during Thursday’s plenary session, which was presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
An attempt by Abia lawmaker Obi Agwuncha to halt the debate was overruled by the Speaker.
Agwuncha had cited Section 305 (6b) of the Constitution, which requires two-thirds of House members to be present in plenary for such deliberations.
