Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has broken silence hours after he was suspended for at least six months following the declaration of state of emergency in the state by President Bola Tinubu.

In a solemn address to the people of Rivers State in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara urged the citizens in the state to remain peaceful and law-abiding in the face of the state of emergency declared in the state.

Speaking with a sense of responsibility and calm, the Governor emphasized that since assuming office, his administration has remained dedicated to the protection of lives and property while ensuring the continuous progress of the state.

He underscored that despite political tensions, his government has prioritized the rule of law and the interests of the people above all else.

Reflecting on recent efforts to restore peace, the Governor highlighted his swift implementation of the terms agreed upon following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention in the crisis.

As part of these peace efforts, he welcomed back commissioners who had previously resigned and promptly complied with the Supreme Court’s judgment once the certified true copy was received.

“These steps were taken not for personal gains but to foster peace, unity, and stability in our dear state,” the Governor stated.

However, he lamented that members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have continually frustrated the administration’s efforts, making genuine peace and progress difficult to achieve.

Despite these challenges, the Governor assured citizens that the government remains steadfast in its duty, ensuring the security of lives and property while continuing to implement developmental projects across the state.

“Yes, we have political disagreements, but good governance has continued. Salaries are being paid, and significant projects are being executed to move the state forward. Above all, Rivers State is safe, secure, and peaceful under our watch,” he affirmed.

He assured that his administration would continue engaging with relevant institutions to uphold democracy and ensure the state’s continued progress.

“We have always been a resilient people, and we will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in our democracy,” he said.

He concluded his address by invoking divine blessings upon Rivers State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
