The lifeless body of an unidentified man, believed to be around 45 years old, was pulled from the Asa River in Ilorin on Tuesday night, April 22, by operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, April 23, by the spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, the recovery followed a report from officials of the State Ministry of Environment, who spotted the body floating in the river.
“Upon receiving the report, a team of firefighters was swiftly deployed to the scene to prevent potential environmental hazards,” Adekunle said. “The crew successfully retrieved the body from the river.”

The Ministry of Environment, whose officials reported the incident after arriving at the Fire Service operational centre with a vehicle bearing registration number 17B-D4KW.
“The recovered body was subsequently handed over to the Ministry of Environment, which is now awaiting formal identification and claims from the deceased’s family.
Director of the State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, used the opportunity to issue a safety advisory to residents of Kwara State.
He urged citizens to remain cautious in their daily routines and discouraged the practice of sending underage children to fetch water from domestic wells.
