A 30-year-old woman, identified as Adams Hannafi, has reportedly taken her life by hanging herself from a tree in Sumore village, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday around 3:00 p.m., leaving residents of the community in shock and sorrow.
According to the report, the deceased, a housewife and mother of four, had long been battling mental illness before the unfortunate event. Her body was discovered by passersby, who promptly alerted security operatives.
Confirming the incident in a statement to newsmen, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Jigawa State Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said officers from the Yalwawa Police Division swiftly moved to the scene after receiving the report.

“Upon arrival, the police found the lifeless body of the victim hanging from a tree. The body was carefully lowered and examined, and no foul play was suspected,” he said.
Shiisu added that the body was subsequently taken to the Dutse General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death. Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that Hannafi had been struggling with mental instability prior to the incident.
The deceased is survived by her husband and four children.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed deep sadness over the loss and urged members of the public to pay close attention to individuals showing signs of emotional or psychological distress.
He further advised families to seek timely medical and psychological help for loved ones dealing with mental health challenges to prevent similar tragedies.
