Fresh revelations have emerged regarding the alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu’s government, as insiders claim that an Air Force officer recently deployed to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) was tasked with assassinating the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
According to reports obtained by Naija News, the officer, identified as Squadron Leader S.B. Adamu, with service number NAF/3481, hails from Jigawa State and was posted to the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) — a unit under the coordination of ONSA — about four weeks before the alleged coup attempt was foiled.
Sources familiar with the ongoing investigation told TheCable that, contrary to earlier reports suggesting multiple ONSA-linked officers were involved, Adamu was the only one directly attached to the office through the NCTC.
Military insiders further disclosed that when Major General Adamu Garba Laka, the National Coordinator of NCTC, made an official request in August 2025 for a specific officer to be deployed to his office, the request was allegedly ignored.

Instead, Squadron Leader Adamu was posted there, a move that reportedly raised eyebrows and fueled fears that the coup plotters had infiltrated the upper ranks of the military.
It was gathered that Adamu’s mission was to eliminate the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, while other members of the group were allegedly assigned to target other senior government officials in what sources described as a “coordinated decapitation plot.”
Insiders added that the officer is now cooperating with investigators following his arrest, providing critical details that are helping authorities unravel the full scope of the conspiracy.
While the Nigerian Military High Command has yet to issue an official statement confirming the alleged coup attempt, President Bola Tinubu recently dismissed two service chiefs, including the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, in what observers believe may be part of a quiet but strategic security shake-up.
