-Tinubu Stresses Need For Military Excellence As 823 Officers Graduate From Nigerian Defence Academy

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Nigerian Armed Forces to engage the country’s adversaries with enhanced military gallantry and sophisticated strategies, emphasizing the need for Nigeria to uphold its reputation as the “Giant of Africa.”

Tinubu made this charge on Saturday in Kaduna during the combined passing out parade of the 71 Regular Course, comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force, at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).

The ceremony, which also included the graduation of Direct Short Service Course 28 (Army) and Direct Short Service Course 32 (Air Force) Cadets, saw 823 officers commissioned into the nation’s armed forces.

President Tinubu, who was represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, urged the newly commissioned officers to maintain a high standard of professionalism and dedication in their service to the country.

“We are the giant of Africa and must remain so,” Tinubu stated, reiterating the importance of Nigeria’s armed forces in securing the nation’s sovereignty and stability.

The president acknowledged the multitude of challenges facing Nigeria, which he said have threatened the country’s unity and development. He pointed to economic hardships, unemployment, and insecurity as top concerns that require urgent attention and intervention.

“More than ever before, my administration is determined to do all it takes to ensure that Nigeria is united, secure, and repositioned for development,” Tinubu said. He assured that the government has identified the core issues at the heart of the nation’s difficulties and is working relentlessly to address them.

Tinubu highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for all Nigerians and called for collective action to overcome the prevailing challenges. He emphasized that the government needs the cooperation of all citizens to achieve sustainable progress.

“Each time we look into military barracks, what strikes us most is the number of widows and children whose husbands and fathers sacrificed their lives for the nation,” he remarked. Tinubu directed the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces to develop a comprehensive policy proposal aimed at supporting the families of fallen soldiers, ensuring they do not suffer due to the sacrifices of their loved ones.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s history since independence, Tinubu noted the mixed experiences of turbulence and fortune, and reiterated his administration’s commitment to reshaping the course of history by fostering unity and inclusiveness. “We are determined to unite this country, where no one should be left behind,” he affirmed.

Tinubu called on the newly commissioned officers to demonstrate unwavering loyalty, commitment, and resilience in their service to the nation. “The nation requires loyalty, dedication, and service from you. Be aware that wherever and whenever the nation comes calling, you must be ready to answer,” he charged.

The passing out parade marked a significant milestone in the careers of the young officers, who are now set to embark on their roles in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and contributing to the nation’s security and stability.
