President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved free train rides across Nigeria from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
The initiative, announced by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, aims to ease transportation costs for Nigerians during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Idris disclosed the development while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Tinubu.

“This measure is part of the federal government’s efforts to cushion the impact of transportation costs, particularly for vulnerable Nigerians,” Idris stated.
The free train service underscores the administration’s commitment to alleviating the economic burden on citizens, especially during the festive season when travel demands increase significantly.
Details on the routes and schedules for the free train services are expected to be announced by relevant agencies in the coming days.
