Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has alleged that certain individuals and groups are benefiting from the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria’s Northeast region and are actively working to prolong the crisis.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa, Zulum lamented the economic and political interests undermining efforts to combat the insurgency.
“There are people who don’t want this insecurity to end because they will not be happy with that,” the governor said, suggesting that the prolonged conflict serves as a source of profit for some.
While noting progress in the military’s efforts to curb insurgent activities, Zulum expressed concern about the resurgence of Boko Haram members in the region.

He attributed the influx to insurgents who had been flushed out of Chad but are now regrouping in Nigeria.
“We have seen successes in the fight against Boko Haram, but unfortunately, they are finding ways to infiltrate the region again,” Zulum added.
The governor called for greater unity among the people and urged citizens to support security operatives in their efforts to combat the insurgency.
“To address this menace, we need to stand together and back the efforts of our security forces,” Zulum emphasized.
While Zulum refrained from naming specific individuals or groups allegedly profiting from the crisis, his remarks highlight a recurring concern about internal sabotage within the region.
